Minister opens technical highlight

On Saterday juni 25th, 2005, at-that-time Minister Karla Peijs of Transport and Communications and Toine Poppelaars, Provincial Executive of the Province of Zeeland, opened the second bridge over the Grevelingen lock of Bruinisse, that was named "De Ysere Ryve" (the iron rake) on the occasion. (Photograph: Marijke Folkertsma)

The bridge is a so-called roller bridge; it is rolled over the lock when the other bridge is opened, so that traffic on the N59 highway is hindered less and fewer traffic-jams will develop. De roller bridge construction is unique in the Netherlands and Hydronics contributed to it with the supply of the hydraulic installation through their client De Boer Dintelmond. Lock "Hartelsluis" of Rotterdam

Extensive renovation works on the lock "Hartelsluis" of Rotterdam. The works included renovation of the cylinders opening and closing the lock's doors and total overhaul of the hydraulic installation.

The Hartelsluis is an important part of the water barrier structures belonging to the Maeslandt barrier. The cylinders weigh 12 tonnes each which made transport by truck impossible. Therefore the cylinders were removed and brought back again by ship (photograph).

Parksluizencomplex of Rotterdam

Extensive renovation of the so-called Parksluizen Complex of Rotterdam for the Rotterdam Harbour Authority.

The renovation comprised:

- replacement of 3 bridges with their drive units;
- replacement of the land-abutments of the bridges;
- replacement and modernization of the electronic control and operation units of the complex;
- exchange and renovation of the hydraulic installations of the large and the small lock.

The activities of A.P. van den Berg included supply and installation of 3 new power packs and 6 hydraulic cylinders with auxiliary lines for the 3 bridges of the complex, and replacing the drive engines as well as the 2 power packs of the locks. With the new hydraulic system a number of improvements were introduced, with respect to the hydraulic system itself as well as the control system. For instance a safety system for holding the bridge in position when it is not controlled due to a failure, pressure limitation to prevent a too high load on the bridge construction, and automatic shut-off of the engines in case of a calamity.

The new control system enables a proportional operation of the hydraulic installations, making bridge and lock movements very smooth. With the activities concluded in the first half of 2006, the intricate infrastructural system is fully available to traffic once again.

Lifting bridge in Rotterdam

Replacement of the Prinses Irenebrug over the river Rotte of Rotterdam.

A.P. van den Berg supplied the hydraulic installation for the lifting bridge that is driven by 4 hydraulic cylinders and 2 hydraulic power packs. The tracking is controlled by means of alignment units in the cylinders and a master-slave system, that in its turn controls the flow of the 4 Parker pumps.
